Choo Choo Train

These are days of training little minds about importance of modes of transportation like road, rail, air, space, water. Curious minds always wonder about mixing these together like an Airboat?! However if you think about honing one particular mode like rail then history will speak for itself when you hear about wide range from steam-engine locomotive to high-speed bullet version. Speaking of which, have you heard about SHINKANSEN 500 Series? It is pretty high-tech!

Thumbs-Up for ourselves when we ride those little compartments and adjust positions to fluently communicate with other passengers. If you have figured it by now, yes I am hinting to that scene from BIG, when lead character enjoyed being kid again in merriful city fair. And among all the attractions, wasn't that choo choo train the most amazing ride he ever had? Watching the excitement of tiny feet rushing towards ticket booth and hoping to get front row seat for maximum fun is rewarding to ticket master as well as engine driver. Their ears start searching for only one command ....

"ALL ABOARD !!"

Riding with strangers is not so bad after all
Heading toward EasterLand for Egg Hunt
As their hearts start racing with shrill of whistle and cloud of white smoke, it is rewarding moment for manufacturer of this fantastic vehicle that is private means of transport in its own way for those who might also enjoy riding publicly. So  next time we think about toys, will Mr. Thomas Engine be our primary choice?

Phone Or Email

Welcome Again:

Every single time we think about COMMUNICATION; we reflect about mode .. don't we? Is it age of Post or Email or Broadcast. And many a times, we just find comfort in reverting to social portal.

So here I am getting to Facebook, my soul and curry; and using, mind well not abusing, IT to get to swift channel of communicating some semi-trivial, however potentially humorous piece of update to niche group of followers. And I really decided to embed phone technology and starting punching those numbers ...

Failure to understand social plugin mystery

  • First try: Failed. So I checked my typing speed and also quality of numbers being entered. Looked great.
  • Next try: Pre-appended with all country codes; yet no luck
  • Thought of giving final try before reverting to traditional Email mode of communication.
And suddenly I see *** The dumb algorithm behind this giant portal kept on complaining about "Incorrect Email" ***

Well does it even understand that it is supposed to check for number string without @
Really there is no .com or .org or .net! Trust US

So pointless to talk to machines that are manufactured by Others, and sold as toys by branded channels. Mark if you are still in control, get your team to resolve it in next production cycle and I might just invest in your shares period.

PS If some samaritan has quick solution then do ping me back.

Disney Dream

Today was the day when our family was ready for annual vacation and simply couldn't wait to get onto DISNEY DREAM cruiseship. It departs from Port Canaveral, Florida and we knew it was going to be three whole days of fun and relaxation. As our car approached the port, we were flabbergasted to see Disney had such strong presence in cruise industry. They have their own private port so parking car, loading luggage and verification of documents was piece of cake. Red, Black and White were the prominent colors that emerged out as we gazed at that humungous thirteen storeyed boat, where every small detail was in the shape of three circles that represented mickey; even the exhaust pipes on top of the boat.

First things first, before any family boards, all children are requested to wear tracking bracelets, so that parents know where the kids are all the time, peace of mind! All the employees are uniquely dressed as sailors in white and welcome you with warm smiles. They personally announce your last name and welcome you aboard to this gigantic atrium that is lit with gorgeous chandelier with bronze statue of Donald Duck at center; soothing music in the air already starts working like magic. The whole ship is divided into forward, mid and backward sections, so if you were to ever book your tickets be sure to pick mid section as it is closest to the core of activities going on day in and day out. As soon as we discovered the coordinates of our cabin, we were delighted to head to the verandah on sixth floor that gave us amazing view of the port. The cabin was loaded with TV, iPod charger-cum-alarm, digital safe box, wireless phones for families to stay connected all the time even if engaged in independent activities. The TV has a dedicated channel that relays useful information on what to do and not to do while on boat like not miss Princess meet scheduled next day 9 am, walk out of cruise ship in pajamas when family leaves its luggage to be picked; sounds funny although you will end up seeing few people walking out in night suits on last day.

Soon we headed to the cabanas along poolside for quick bite and inspite of it being just one hour since the official boarding time, the area was buzzing with little kids; and we realized that it is never early to board!! The pool area is state-of-the-art design distributed across three storeys, the kids pool is well designed keeping in mind appropriate depth and shape for kids to get easily comfortable in water with minimum parental guidance. There are slides, wet area with Nemo theme and gigantic screen that has cartoons, trivia being telecast nonstop. AquaDuck is highlight which is thrilling water coaster that takes you across the periphery of the cruise, it makes your adrenaline rush. There is adult pool at top level on forward with warm jacuzzi and bar. You will never run out of chairs to just relax if you were not yet ready to get wet. On backward top level is sports recreation, where you can enjoy basketball, mini-golf, foosball of just chill at the tip of the boat.

Evening dinners are served in three different restaurants so every night is unique dining experience:

Princess: bread served in chariot shaped serving bowl
Animation palate: walls are made of high-tech digital screens where turtle from Nemo entertains guests with real-time interaction with kids celebrating their birthdays and such
Green Emerald: One-stop for savory lox and bagels, ahi tuna, mickey waffles and the list is endless

In addition there are some half a dozen lounges, bars and snack areas to cater your appetite on the go. We decided to wrap the night by attending an extremely action-packed live entertainment show in the theatre.

The second day was at Nassau Bahamas, but when you have infinite options right at your disposal who would even consider running behind a mirage. We were busy the whole morning meeting all of the six princess: snow white, tiana, belle, cinderella, ariel, sleeping beauty. Having shopped lighted tiara the earlier night, our daughter was the seventh princess. They were so ditto that even parents could not resist to pose with them and have a royal handshake! And how neat of the staff to address all girls as princess whenever they want to guide them in child care facilities, teen club or elsewhere. Throughout the day, kids meet various disney characters like Mickey, Minnie, Donald, Daisy, Goofy, Pluto, Chipmunks in various costumes like sailor, pirate, princess; so not a single kid is left disappointed about not meeting either of the characters.

Disney's official photographers are constantly capturing your families fun-filled moments in their high tech camera, so you are not bothered to click all the time that makes you feel like celebrity with papparazzi around you! The photo pick up mechanism is well-organized where each family has their own digital and hard-copy album maintained that gets loaded with more and more photos as time passes. They are a keepsake.

The second night was dedicated to Pirates of Carribean theme where we met Jack Sparrow and also shared some of his gold treasure. All voyagers wear red bandanas on their heads and share the spirit. The entire pool area changes into wooden dance floor!!! And dads-daughters and moms-sons dance the night out to live music where professional dancers mingle with you on dance floor and help discover hidden dance talent within you. By the way did I not mention about spectacular fireworks that was the finale?

The third day was at Disney's private island Castaway Cay which is pure joy for sea-lovers. The lagoon gives you satisfaction of enjoying sea activities at limited risk. White sand, hammocks, fresh towels boost your energy to get ready for another action-packed wet day. Snorkeling, kayaking, jetskiing, biking, so much to do, so little time. Barbecue of shrimp, scallops, fish, kalamari, served just the way you want. This was the day when our daughter tried to ride bike with training wheels for the first time and it was a success. What a memory to cherish!

The final breakfast was all about expressing gratitude to our cabin caretaker, server, assistant server, head server, with whom you build warm bonding in past few hours as they help you make the best of your stay. Although we were not ready to say good bye, we forced ourselves to do so, just to meet everyone again real soon!

TRANQUILITY

Do most of us try to figure out what it takes to really work towards attaining content? It has been said several times "Strive for it", "Don't miss single opportunity", "Go get it". Obviously under banner of attempting to achieve something more crucial. Like long-term capital gain?!

I try it really hard, but once a while also do its reverse. So what if one tried to admire beauty of how butterfly sits and with such a simple gesture calms its audience. Lets just say it is beginning of the act of
BIRD WATCHING
Vibrant colors, nimble movements and flocks of butterflies kept me rooted in a spot to observe this rhythmic energy built around me.

Questions started popping as to what makes them so light, what do they drink/eat? I want to be that! And interestingly just dipping my thumb in juice and tuning my frequency towards antenna of "Mr. Joe" who was apparently resting on micro-screen, I experienced blissful emotion of actually feeding this little creature. How rewarding.

After all the tingling sensation of its feet dancing on my fingers and juice dripping off it, here was my chance to test if it was ready to migrate onto this new surface, just for its food. Will it? Should it? Must it? Two feet clinging on to original pad, two in juice and remaining on fingertip, it just continued doing what it was supposed to. Now that is dedication, may I say. So here go few more tick-tock's and I make up my mind to bid adieu to this little guy who made my day amidst all the organized chaos of entertaining family, shortening to-do list, and getting back to work. Although later I sucked remainder of juice off my thumb, it did not taste even 80% sweet as the whole experience was.

BOT DUMBNESS

Warning: Please hone your humane touch before you proceed reading this article.

One of these days, when I get tired of answering What, Why, How questions from next generation, I try to put myself into their shoes and just land onto www.ehow.com

What a resourceful collection of articles and videos, especially with that lively colors, it makes you sway while reading or watching. Having tuned in, my "self" decides to venture into their Plant Care section to hunt for tips on Venus Trap saplings. Do these carnivorous plants need to be manually fed with an insect or two? Do they need constant confirmation that even if they are not mobile, they have been given power to eat flies? Or are there sweet juices luring enough for stupid bugs to try some?

Running out of patience, I land on the "Top List" to only find the very first article listed to be as irrelevant to the topic as possible. South Indian Chutney Varieties by Bing-Ai Chen is not meant to be there. Confirmed once, twice and started analyzing the situation. First a deep breath, then is it the TAGs in the search optimization algorithm responsible for this blunder? Or heavy influence of IC's that management was forced to put this pair in that position. Really?

Taking a step back, it was like rendez-vous when all those incidents flashed in front of me, where Artificial Intelligence gets tainted due to such dilution of efforts. Please avoid Garbage-In, Garbage-Out! It hurts exponentially!! Search Engine Optimization (SEO) is extremely challenging domain and involves multi-dimensional gating before your items can even get added to database. Be wise with those parameters, they are jewels.

For now may I just rely back on nature's working rules and assume that venus traps will survive as always.

Eat Poop, Poop Poop

So who hasn't heard about "Crawfish"? They taste yummy, can crawl backwards faster than you can imagine, carry elegant shell and above all make eco-friendly pets that keep water bodies clean. All in all, superior version of shrimp (= prawn)!

When it comes to pets, most of the times my concern is whether they are getting fed appropriately. And by that I mean right proportion, bearable taste and healthy frequency per week. So after some internet research and consultation with my creek-lady, I decided to stick to dry food officially manufactured for crustaceans, that looks like …. Now that’s where lies the whole fun fun fun.

Have you ever seen any living being eat poop? Or on lighter side, poop something that looks like food?? If you think this might be stretching it too far, just hang in there. My little fella never eats instantaneously whenever he is fed; like most husbands you see. They have to do it in hiding. So one worry down the hole.

Whenever my day gets overloaded, I like to enter my little fella's world, where he enjoys air bubbles from filter, hides in conch, floats amidst water-plants and who knows when he really eats?! Its so soothing to watch him. And in that session, I literally spotted him pooping in action. What a sight .. His excretions were just like his food nuggets. I couldn't believe it! So I zoomed myself into his zone, and made sure that he did not eat it. If you are aware of what "Shivambhu" is, then you will understand my concern. So all in all, he merrily winded his poop party effortless and was heading back to his conch.

Even though I kept wondering how he distinguishes between his poop and food, the fact that he is six months old, proves that he knows his lesson well!

PLATONIC BLISS

After 28 years of wait, 2nd time in my life, World Cup 2011 earned by Indian Cricket Team so gracefully and absolutely well-deserved.

"Man of the Tournament": U V S

"Man of the Match": M S D
Jai Maharashtra! Jai Hind!! Jai Ho!!!

Thursday, March 31, 2011

Dear Readers,
The reason I got back to blogging so soon is SOLE EXCITEMENT for Cricket World Cup 2011. Out of the many parameters that drive us each day, excitement is so crucial. And if I may ask, what excites you? There can be several responses ranging from your work to social vibe to my writing .. Now hope the last option gave you a chuckle if not tempting you to read ahead. Just yesterday, India won Semi-finals against Pak-is-tan (with blows from Harbhajan and UV) in home state Punjab of Prime Ministers of both nations. Now if you missed the match or even worse the highlights, then please stop reading this and get back to watching related video clips that smell sheer victory or shall I say "good-cricket-with-disciplined-bowling" . Salute to our bowlers. Although this is my best birthday present, as intelligently pointed by some of my friends; the pressure is building upon as our team is prepping to face Sri Lanka in Mumbai in just two more days for the FINALS. Obviously, since I believe in letting the process work smoothly no matter how hyper my neurons are, I will keep my routine up and running. Here is Wankhede Stadium's mesmerizing view which makes me scream on side of the shoreline "GO INDIA GO!" Also this is my small attempt at not clogging facebook servers. After reading some infinite updates past couple days, wonder what it will take to get them down atleast for few moments, may be simultaneous login and video posts by 80% of userbase?!
Signing off,

Library Story Program

Dear Readers,

Kids love stories, they are an important part of their childhood. And so do they love books. Today I would like to introduce you all to the story programs that are conducted in local public libraries in USA. It is an excellent program for infants to kids aged until 5 years to get them introduced to all sorts of creative thinking. And the cherry on the ice-cream is that it is FREE for all residents.

My daughter started enjoying going to library since she was 8 months old. The whole library visit experience is inviting and exclusive for kids. Right from their wait outside the story room till the right time to start the session. There are tons of educational toys, books and puzzles for kids to explore. Once it is time, the coordinator invites each child with welcome puppet to the room. The room is heaven for kids; colorful carpet with numbers, shapes and designs on it. Walls are decorated with meaningful art décor. Each session lasts for about 20 minutes constituting of music, poems, story-telling and bubble-making for infants. For older kids, the session is customized by providing variety of informative interactions between story coordinator and kids which teach colors, numbers, animals and more. Every session ends in stamping tattoos on kids’ hands of different animals. What a joy ride! To top everything, kids can check out their favorite books to enjoy at home before their next library visit.

The story programs are conducted at least twice daily from Monday through Thursday in every public library branch. The coordinators with their assistant have couple weeks planning break every 3 months to come up with new ideas and themes. Hats off to this management and organizational skills of American public libraries where you can experience their efforts to inculcate honest reading love among kids develop naturally. There is nothing more satisfying than your kid craving for library visit and enjoying reading books even in this age of television and computers!

Sincerely,
Mrs. Dhanashree Arole

दीपावली की हार्दिक शुभकामनाएं!

Wish one and all very Happy Diwali 2009!

This is Festival of Lights, Fire-crackers, sweets, and everything that brings hope and joy to one's family. This year it is being celebrated on two separate days:
Oct 17, Sat: NarakChaturdashi, Laxmipoojan
Oct 19, Mon: Padwa, Bhaubeej

About 2.5 decades ago, I vividly remember friends and family busy for almost two weeks with Diwali preparations. Well Gadkaris most coveted family time together used to be wrapping dry-fruit gift boxes to distribute exactly on Diwali Shubh muhurta. What a test of art, craft, patience, hard work and dedication it used to be!

In current fast world, it is matter of shelling few pennies and one can have hands on fancy gift boxes. My daughter had loads of fun unpacking n number of all sizes of gifts. She is now really an expert. Bless this joyous spirit of lighting oil lamps, hanging fragrant flower garlands, building forts/castles and relishing declicious delicacies.

As always noise and sound pollution have been my matters of concern, especially with megalevel bursting of fire-crackers which I hear as I fall asleep and even wake me up at early hours. However, it is quite encouraging to sense this same anguish among kids today which apalls me and at the same time helps me give sigh of relief. This is surely smarter generation and i hope they get best of everything.
